The certification is an advisory and auditing process that helps employers introduce measures to improve human resources management, with a focus on work-life balance. The process is carried out with the help of qualified external consultants.

The Family Friendly Enterprise certificate is based on the "European work&family audit" system developed by the German organisation Berufundfamile. It was introduced in Slovenia in 2007 by the Young Mothers/Family Friendly Employment Development Partnership under the EQUAL programme. Since November 2007, the process has been led and implemented by the Ekvilib Institute, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities of the Republic of Slovenia and interested external partners.

Companies/organisations can apply for the Family Friendly Enterprise certificate from 28. januarja 2026 dalje. Poziv je odprte narave in se za leto 2026 zaključi 31. decembra 2026.

Rules and procedure for obtaining the Family-Friendly Enterprise certificate

The certification process is divided into two parts:

  • obtaining a basic certificate, which lasts for 6 months;
  • obtaining an advanced certificate, which lasts for 36 months.

Obtaining the certificate is a consulting and auditing process, which has the function of assessing and advising employers on which tools to use for better human resource management in the context of reconciling the professional and family lives of employees. Through an internal process, the company determines and implements the selected objectives and measures. Based on an internal assessment of the actual situation, the company, with the help of an external assessor/advisor, determines a plan for the introduction of measures aimed at improving the management of work processes and the quality of the working environment for a better work-life balance. After a positive assessment of the implementation plan for the selected measures by the audit board, the company obtains the basic "Family-Friendly Enterprise" certificate.

After three years, an assessment is made to determine whether the measures have been implemented and the objectives achieved. If the objectives have been achieved, the company obtains the full "Family-Friendly Enterprise" certificate.
